Sven flies the Blue Lion until he is injured, after which Princess Allura takes it. It forms Voltron’s lower right leg. The handover is the most consequential cast change the 1984 run makes, and it is forced by the Japanese footage rather than chosen by the American writers. In Legendary Defender, the Blue Lion is the one the series finds first, hidden in an Earth desert cave for ten thousand years; it chooses Lance as its Paladin and flies itself, and the four other future Paladins riding along, through a wormhole to Arus before anyone has agreed to anything.
